Hometown Heroes

Emerald Asset Management, Inc., the Emerald Foundation and the Lancaster Barnstormers are pleased to announce that Angelia Reed, founder of “Wrap Up Lancaster” has been named as June’s “Hometown Hero” for her service to our community. Wrap Up Lancaster volunteers make scarves and place them in public locations in Lancaster and Columbia, where they are available to anyone who needs them. Angelia started Wrap Up Lancaster in 2014 with 3 scarves and since then the project has grown to over a thousand items put out in public places in Lancaster and Columbia for anyone who is in need. They are wrapped around trees with a note that they are not lost, and that they are there for anyone who needs them. The idea of giving a scarf is like giving someone a hug, and being handmade adds a special touch. Wrap Up Lancaster reaches out to our neighbors in need. As an example, on any given day in Lancaster County, over 350 people are experiencing homelessness – in emergency shelters, on the street, or in places not meant for human habitation.

The Emerald Hometown Hero award was created in 2015 to recognize and honor outstanding individuals in our local community who have worked to make Lancaster and our world a better place through hard work, inspiration, sacrifice and leadership. Each month’s Hometown Hero will have the opportunity to throw out the first pitch and be honored with a banner in centerfield and a write-up in the Barnstormers program detailing their good works. Angelia will be honored at the June 24th Barnstormers game.
