Hometown Heroes

Emerald Asset Management, Inc., the Emerald Foundation and the Lancaster Barnstormers are pleased to announce that David Green of the Singer Equipment Company has been named as the May “Hometown Hero” for his commitment and service to our community.

David and his wife, Kate, and their two children, Elizabeth (29) and Shannon (23), have lived in the Lancaster area for 26 years. They attend Wheatland Presbyterian Church. From 1989-1992, David worked as Manager of Planning and Design for Dart Group Corporation. From 1992-2011, David worked as a Senior Construction Project Manager and Regional Facilities Manager at Ratner Company, where he managed the construction of over 75 new salons and 30 salon remodels throughout the country. From 2011-2013, David was the Project Manager of Design & Build Retail Innovations for the Compass Group. Again, David was responsible for all phases of the design and build process for retail innovation across the country. Since 2013, David has been the Associate Director of Project Management for Institutional Sales and National Accounts for Singer Equipment Company. He is responsible for the food service design build division of Singer Equipment Nationwide and focuses primarily in the Business, Health Care and Higher Education segments. David and his three project managers work on over 150 projects a year. The company’s motto is “To be the most responsive, knowledgeable and friendly supplier to the food service industry, providing solutions to our customers’ challenges.”

When David is not working, you will find him playing his bass (enjoying both Jazz and Funk), hiking (he has hiked the Presidential Range in the While Mountains, the Appalachian Trail of the Blue Ridge Mountains, and the Snowdonia Mountains in Wales). David also enjoys scuba diving and mountain biking.

David came to visit the Emerald Foundation upon a suggestion from a friend. He listened intently to what we were currently doing in our new building, not only to support established non-profits, but also to develop new non-profit programs that address unmet needs of the community (after-school programming for at-risk youth, food pantry for food-insecure families, training for young adults with disabilities, etc.). We also showed David our kitchen (which did not pass inspection and could not be used) and told him of our dream of being able to cook in the kitchen, allowing up to cover our overhead costs of the building and enable us to put together kitchen and cooking training programs for the underserved within our community. David suggested that his company may be able to help us.

Within fewer than three weeks, David came back to us with a full plan for a complete renovation of our kitchen, along with all equipment donated by the Singer Corporation. Within a couple of months, we completed the renovation of our kitchen, which recently passed inspection, and we have already begun to see the wonderful benefits for both the Emerald Foundation and the community as a whole.

Fred Singer, President and CEO of the Singer Organization, once said, “What makes Singer unique? Simple. It’s the people. When you do business with Singer, you can be confident you will work with responsive, knowledgeable, and friendly people. We are proud of our reputation for integrity, value and quality. Our customers choose Singer knowing they can expect more, not only in the experience and products we offer, but in the high standards we hold ourselves to as a company. The Singer story is about a relentless commitment to service, food service expertise and excellence. Earning the trust of our customers and building long-term relationships are the guiding principles of our company, and we work hard at it every day. As CEO, I couldn’t be prouder of our nearly 500 teammates across eight locations. Spend some time with us and you’ll see why.”

David is an incredibly humble person (it took a lot to convince him to accept this honor). The truth is, David Green represents all that Fred Singer says about his employees, and more! We are eternally grateful to David for his passion and commitment to the community and being such a champion for our cause. We can’t thank David, and the Singer Corporation, enough!
