Our Emerald Hometown Hero: Shawn Canady

Posted on

Shawn Canady is the Chief Information Officer of the Lebanon School District.  He is passionate about leveraging technology to create enhanced learning opportunities in order to level the playing field for economically disadvantaged students.

Shawn was tasked by the superintendent to implement an esports program at the Lebanon School District.  By partnering with the Emerald Foundation, the LSD was able to design and construct a superior Esports Arena, which offers students the ability to compete from a facility Shawn hopes will serve as a model for other districts throughout the state.  The program is now entering its second year.

Shawn has an extensive background in Technology Education. He worked as a Technology Education Teacher and Instructional Technology Coach prior to moving into his leadership roles at the Lebanon School District. He is also an adjunct professor in the Learning Technologies (LTMS) program at Harrisburg University, specializing in Media Design.

Shawn holds a BS in Industrial Arts / Technology Education from Millersville University, An MS from Penn State University in Instructional Systems Design, and an Educational Leadership Certificate from Johns Hopkins University.

Shawn is married to Kristen and has three children Scott, Katelyn and Madelyn as well as two grandchildren.

The Emerald Hometown Hero award was created in 2015 in partnership with Lancaster Barnstormers to recognize and honor outstanding individuals in our local community who have worked to make Lancaster and our world a better place through hard work, inspiration, sacrifice and leadership.
