Philadelphia, PA (January 22, 2020)  Today, Defend Your Head and the Emerald Foundation of Lancaster, PA, announced their ‘High School Hero” program, designed to help make high school football players safer with Defend Your Head’s innovative ProTech helmet covers. Funding provided by Joe and Martha Besecker will give student athletes better head protection with ProTech’s ‘SAFR’ technology.

“At Defend Your Head, we are focused on one single mission – to make players safer,” said John Zeglinski, Defend Your Head’s Sr. VP of National Business Development.  “Our High School Hero program makes that mission possible for more kids, we are thrilled and grateful to the Emerald Foundation for joining our mission and providing ProTechs for the football team at Lancaster Catholic.”

ProTech’s patented technology has been proven to absorb and dissipate energy for the reduction of injury due to blunt force trauma.  A three-year independent study by Penn State University concluded that Defend Your Head’s technology was the primary factor in reducing traumatic head impacts to Nittany Lion players.  Research revealed that high impact collisions were reduced significantly versus helmets alone.  In addition to Penn State, more than 10,000 football players are wearing ProTechs, including student athletes at Penn, NC State, Temple, Alabama, and Baylor.

“We are thrilled to partner with Defend Your Head on this important safety initiative,” said Martha Besecker, Executive Director of the Emerald Foundation.   “Helping make student athletes at Lancaster Catholic safer playing football is perfectly aligned with our focus on education, youth, health, and safety awareness.”

The ‘High School Hero’ event will take place on Tuesday, January 28th at 7pm, at the Emerald Foundation Community Campus, 2120 Oregon Pike, Lancaster, PA.

“The Athletic office and Administration at Lancaster Catholic has been continually researching ways to provide a safer playing environment for all of our teams. Putting in the new stadium was a first step in this direction. We have been looking at different products for the football team for the last few years and we believe ProTech is the right company to move forward with to provide this safer playing environment”, said Rich Hinnenkamp, Lancaster Catholic’s Athletic Director.  “We are very grateful to Mr. & Mrs. Besecker and the Emerald Foundation for their continued support of Lancaster Catholic High School.”
